The regulatory status of homeopathy in Albania

Homeopathic practice
Homeopathy, as well as other CAM modalities such as naturopathy, chiropractic and herbal medicine, is regulated in the “Law on Health Care” from 2009, article 20, as a therapeutic system that does not follow the generally accepted medical methods and may not have a scientific explanation for their effectiveness. Advertisement and practice of CAM methods unlicensed by the Ministry of Health are prohibited. Further conditions and implementation are determined by order of the Minister of Health.

The Act on Regulated Professions in Albania from 2009 applies to every person who wants to exercise a regulated profession in the Republic of Albania. According to article 5 of the professionals act, regulated health professionals in Albania are doctors, dentists, pharmacists, nurses, midwives, physiotherapists and veterinarians.

Homeopathic medicines
The pharmaceutical services in Albania are mainly private with rigorous monitoring from the Health Ministry and the National Centre of Drugs Control. Albania collaborates with the European Medicines Agency to adjust national legislation to the European Union Directives.
